Obituary for Mary Frances Garrison Mountjoy…
MRS. MARY F. MOUNTJOY
[Special Dispatch to the Baltimore Sun.]
Fredericksburg, Va., July 23 (1907, my add.).— Mrs. Mary Frances Mountjoy, widow of Henry Mountjoy, died yesterday at the home of her son, William G. Mountjoy, at Garrisonville, in Stafford county, aged 84 years. She is survived by one son, one daughter and one brother.

I believe the obituary “informants” were mistaken in both cases:
William Newman Mountjoy was James Bernard 1878 Mountjoy’s son, Mary’s grandson.
Rev James H Garrison must be James Barnett 1827 Garrison as he was identified as a reverend or minister in the years after his wife, Harriet, died (1901). 1907 makes sense since James died in 1910. I believe the informants for Mary’s obituary believed James was her brother because he was about her age. They probably were simply providing info as they understood it; the “Rev.” in this case is key.
James Barnett 1827 Garrison was Mary Frances’ 2nd cousin.

A-ha! Bill has another death notice that references James Bernard, with no mention of a William. But even better…they name Mary’s brother:
“Rev James H. Garrison” — and he would still be living in 1907 when she dies since he is listed as surviving her. So who is this???
I found the attached death notice for Mary Frances Garrison Mountjoy. You’ll see it states she died in the home of her son “William G” Mountjoy and later says she is survived by one son. Using logic, that should be William. But Bill Mountjoy is telling me that her son’s name was James Bernard Mountjoy, and she died at HIS home. Interesting. Did the paper make a mistake on the name, or is something else going on?
I did find a death certificate for James Bernard Mountjoy and it indeed shows that his parents were Henry Mountjoy and Mary Garrison.
A further search yielded a marriage announcement for James Bernard’s daughter Daisy. The article notes that Daisy’s only attendant was Miss Nellie Mason Garrison, “a cousin”. After consulting my tree, it seems Nellie is the granddaughter of James Sanford Garrison, who I think we’ve pegged as one of Yelverton’s children.

If she was a daughter of Yelverton, that would make Daisy (Mary Frances’ daughter) and Nellie (Samuel’s daughter) first cousins, as per the wedding announcement.

Daisy 1889 Mountjoy was James Bernard 1852 and Mary Catherine (Evans) Mountjoy’s daughter
