Corporal Stone enlisted 4 May 1861. He was the son of William Harkins Stone of Virginia.

Old Confederate Soldier Dead.

Springfield, Missouri: William J. Stone, aged 67 years died here last week. He was a prominent citizen and a confederate soldier, seeing much active service in the Civil War. He was in many battles and was the man who killed General Wright, commander of the Fifth Corps of the Army of the Potomac, in a desperate battle.
