History of Maysville and Mason County; Chapter eight. Court records.
“May 9 1853, in Bracken county, Ky., Mary Brierly, widow of the pensioner, at the
age of 92, appeared in open court and stated that they were married March 27, 1793, at Washington, Mason county, Ky., by a minister, Mr. Willson, and she also stated that her husband, the pensioner, died in Bracken county, Ky., September 30, 1833. The widow of the pensioner appointed Charles C Tucker to be her lawful attorney.” Further on:
“Mary Brierly, the widow of the pensioner appointed John N Jefferson to be her lawful attorney and she also stated that her maiden name was Mary Garrison. Further on:
“The affidavit of
Thomas Cumber was also given. He stated that he was acquainted with the pensioner and his family, and knew the pensioner and his wife were legally married as she had stated.” Further on:
“February 9, 1854, in Mason county, Ky., the affidavit of
George Brierly, Jr., was given. He stated that he was the son of the pensioner and his widow and he also stated that he was born April 1st. 1794, in Mason county, Ky., and said that his parents were legally married as had been stated and that his father received a pension and that his mother still remained the widow and relict of the pensioner.”
Mary must have been George 1794 Brierly’s step-mother as she married George Sr in 1817. George Jr’s mother must have been Susannah Lyon (1760-1794) who must have died in childbirth.
