Lewis (Louis) Dickerson was drafted into the Confederate Army on 26 Feb 1862. He deserted 15 Apr 1862. His mother recounts in her claim that the "rebels" came with their guns and made him go. He returned home as soon as the federals occupied Stafford County. In the spring of 1863 he went to Maryland and took the oath of allegence to the US.

Lewis' father, also in the service of the confederate army (unk whether he was drafted or volunteered). He died 20 Apr 1862, 5 days after his son deserted.
