Dismisses Murder Charge Against Mrs. Ella Raines
Fredericksburg, Va, June 22, a charge of murder in the fatal shooting of her husband two weeks ago has been dismissed against Mrs. Ella Raines Page Gallahan, Raines, 57 year old mother of ten children.
The dismissal action by Spotsylvania County Trial Justice A Nelson Waller came yesterday after Commonwealth's Attorney T. Stokeley Coleman said he saw "No Evidence Of Crime Under The Law".
Mrs. Raines testified that her 61 year old husband, Wenton Raines, beat her frequently and the blow-up came when she refused to return to him a love letter, she found address to him from another woman.
She said her husband grappled with her and threatened to kill her. Getting a .32 Caliber Pistol, she said she fired two warning shots as Raines approached and then shot him in the head when he kept coming toward her, unttering threats. He died 11 hours later in a hospital here.
A son Milton Raines, testified he often had seen bruises on his mother made by his father, he said his father was Hot-Tempered and "There just wasn't anything that could sto him, Thats All."
