Notes for Tina Bernice (Spouse 1)
Bernice T Scruggs is in the 1930 Charlottesville census and the 1931 Charlotte city directory in 1931. In both cases Claude Houston Scruggs, her husband, is with her and their child, Bettie J Scruggs. After 1931, Bernice and Bettie J disappear. When Claude registers for the WWII draft on 16 Oct 1940 in Charlottesville, he list his father as the person “who will always know your address”. Bernice and Bettie are obviously gone or dead by this time.

Claude is remarried by 1942 as he and his wife, Elizabeth Hinkle Layne, are shown in the 1942 Charlotte city directory.
