Notes for Margaret Maggie H Garrison
James Shackelford, born 1800 and died 1841, in Stafford County, Va., married 1819, Elizabeth Garrison, in Stafford County, Va., who was born 1799, and died 1850. They had the following children: Elizabeth born 1821, Harriet born 1823, Edward, born 1825, Dicy born 1829, James, Jr. born 1834, Eliza Ann, born 1837, and William Isaac and Sarah-twins, born July 9, 1839, all in Stafford County, Va. William Isaac died April 18, 1904, in Harrison County, Missouri.

“Am looking for information on James Shackelford (b. 1800, d. 1841) married to Elizabeth Garrison in 1819 (b. 1799, d. 1850). He had a daughter Betsy who apparently married a Garrison. Betsy Garrison had a daughter named Maggie Hagner who at one time lived in Baltimore. This information was found in a family Bible that recently came into my possession. Other names in the Bible were Grigsby Metzker, Sara Garrison, Mrs. Lathrop, Lucinda Terry, Sarah Metzger, Mrs. Jenkins. Other children of James and Elizabeth are Harriet, Edward, Dicy, James, Eliza Ann, Sarah and William. Any information will be appreciated.”

An aside
1850 Stafford County census: son (William) Isaac is with Sarah ca 1800 Shackelford, James Shackelford’s sister; older children, James RC, Dicy, and Eliza, are with maternal grandfather, James ca1771 Garrison.

From “family Bible”:

1. James 1795 Shackelford and Elizabeth 1799 Garrison had a daughter, Betsy Shackleford
2. Betsy Shackelford married an unnamed Garrison; they had a daughter name Maggie Hagner who at one time lived in Baltimore.

Given: Margaret “Maggie” Garrison, daughter of ? Garrison and Betsy Shackelford according to family Bible

From research:

John Lawson Garrison and wife, Elizabeth (MNU at this point), in 1850-1870 Stafford County, VA census along with children; all of these census exclude Maggie. However...

Maggie 1858 Garrison is included with her mother, Elizabeth 1821 Garrison (spouse of John Lawson Garrison who died before 1880), and siblings in the 1880 Laurel, Prince GeorgeĀ“s County, Maryland census (siblings match those in Stafford County census).

Maggie 1858 Garrison married Adam R 1859 Hagner about 1882 and are residing in Baltimore City, Maryland in the 1900 census. Additional Garrison connection...

Margaret and Adam Hager lived in Delaware after 1880 (see attached graphic) like some of Margaret's sibling: James William Garrison, Leander Garrison, Charles Garrison and Edgar Garrison.

Conclusion:

The Elizabeth who married John Lawson Garrison must have been Betsy Shackelford (not Fritter) as daughter, Maggie Garrison, shown in the 1880 Laurel, Prince George’s County, Maryland census married Adam Hager as shown in Connie Griffis Eckerman’s family bible.
