I believe that William Milton and Elizabeth Garrison (married 1843) both died after 1847 and before 1850. Their children, James 1843, Martha 1845, and Sarah 1847 probably went to William’s sister Nancy 1805 Milton. It appears Nancy never married (single and deceased Dec 1879) and could not support her brother’s children.

Nancy, James, Martha, and Sarah Milton are in Elijah 1780 Garrison’s 1850 Census household. The children are using the Garrison surname in 1860, still living in Elijah’s household; Nancy Milton is not. I can find no record showing Nancy after 1850 except for her death record in 1879

Elijah, previously married to Virginia “Jenny” Owens (deceased 1838), married Mary Polly 1808 Milton in 1840 (see 1850 Albemarle Census). Mary must have been William W Milton’s and Nancy Milton’s younger sister. Elizabeth 1810 Garrison would have been Elijah’s Garrison’s niece.

Other than William Milton’s and Elizabeth Garrison’s marriage in 1843, the rest is supposition.
