Notes for George T Garrison
Probably named after Charlotte’s first husband, George Rodgers

“Gov. Tanner extended executive clemency to Geo. Garrison, the 10”‘,the sentence [ordered] to expire immediately. Garrison was convicted at the Feb. 1888 term of the Mac. Co. Circuit Court of murder & sentenced to the penitentiary for life, reduced to 23 yrs. Convicted of [the] murder of W. A. Dickson, an 18-year old coal miner living near Girard. Dickson had been paying attention to Garrison’s 18-year old [actually 12-year old] daughter and the father had heard remarks reflecting upon the reputations of the young people. Dickson persisted in his attention to the girl, against the protest of the father and, in a fit of ungovemable rage, Garrison attacked Dickson with a knife, inflicting a wound from which the young man died.
“Garrison was an old soldier and the Governor believes that, having spent the better part of his life in prison, this release cannot bring any [harm] to society. The state’s attorney interested in the case expressed the desire that the old man be liberated.’’‘”
