Notes for Henry Tyler Garrison
GARRISON, HENRY T.: Enl. 4/21/61 in Co. A, age 19. Student. Absent sick, Jan.-Feb. 1862. Absent on detached service, Jan.-June 1863 and Jan.-Feb. 1864. AWOL, 6/10/64-7/1/64. Present at 10/6/64 final roll.  Lived in Baltimore postwar.  A publication of the Maryland Line veteransí organization at that city identified Garrison as a veteran of Co. A, 9th Virginia Cavalry, and reported that he was dead.  Unless that was in error, the Henry T. Garrison shown in the 1910 Stafford census as a Confederate veteran must have served elsewhere.  That census gave the veteranís age as 67, which dovetails nicely with the military age supplied in early 1861.

Henry Tyler Garrison (1842-after 1914)
Henry Tyler Garrison (1842-after 1914) was the son of Robert Garrison (c.1808-c.1852), a merchant in the upper part of Stafford County.  During the War Between the States, Henry T. Garrison served with the 9th Virginia Cavalry.  He married Susan Ann Ransdell (1842-c.1903).  The Stafford court records include the following, “Ordered that H. T. Garrison, an ex-Confederate soldier, who is in indigent circumstances and a resident of Stafford County be allowed the sum of ten dollars ($10.00) payable out of the County levy, it being shown to the Board that he is suffering from a cancer and unable to work.”  The Garrison family was in Stafford at least as early as 1715 and many of them worked as blacksmiths or merchants.
