The Muster Rolls show that he served during the War of 1812 in Captain William H. Fitzhugh2 C ONT Company, 45th. Regiment of the Virginia Militia commanded by Col. Samuel H. Peyton. He is listed in the 1840 Census of Pensioners as being age 43. It is probable that he lost his sight during
his service in the militia.
