Robert Doyle appears twice in 1870 Stafford County, Virginia census. One shows he was born in Maryland; the other shows he was born in Virginia.

He does not appear in an1850 Virginia or Maryland census. In the 1860 Prince William County census, Robert’s birthplace is Maryland.

Taken at face value, he identifies himself as a native of the State of Virginia in an 18 April 1900 Confederate Pension application. The application also shows his age as 74 (born 1826).

I believe Robert was born in Maryland, the 1860 census being correct.

Robert Sr. born ca 1805 (from above) must have died before 1850.
I believe Elizabeth, b. 1797-1805, was Robert 1805 Doyles wife.
Elizabeth would have been about age 21 when Robert 1826 Doyle was born, logical.
Note that Elizabeth was born in Virginia. She apparently died in 1860.

It appears Catherine, born ca 1829 died before 1860. John has remarried, spouse S F Shackelford born abt. 1840.

Note: Note: E E Shackelford is 4, meaning Catherine may have died in childbirth. S F would have been about 16 if she was the mother, unlikely.

Mary is probably S F Shackelford’s daughter but could be Catherine’s if Catherine died in 1859 childbirth.

Mary Shackelford must have been very traumatized to show up in an asylum, as an orphan before 1870. I believe John must have died before 1870; I can’t find him in an 1870 or later census.
